Tourism NT and Major Events merge to drive visitor growth

Two key organisations driving tourism and events will merge to form a single, dynamic entity: Tourism and Events NT.

The new entity will see Tourism NT and NT Major Events Company merge – streamlining operations and boosting the Territory’s ability to market tourism and events with greater impact.

The change sets a new direction for tourism and events in the Northern Territory, that will strengthen the NT as place to visit, explore, live and do business.

Tourism and Events NT Chief Marketing Officer Staci Mellman will join this new entity on 1 October.

Ms Mellman brings outstanding international tourism marketing credentials, having led destination marketing for Brand USA and VISIT FLORIDA, where she forged innovative partnerships with Michelin, the NFL and Expedia, delivering measurable growth in visitation and brand engagement.

The announcement comes off the back of a great weekend of racing action in Darwin at the MXGP of Australia. This global 3-day motocross event saw more than 36,000 attendances with 58% of attendees coming from interstate or overseas. MXGP of Australia also received the MXGP Global Award for Best Promotion.

A new Tourism and Events NT Advisory Board will be established to drive the direction of Tourism and Events NT. A call for Expressions of Interest to join the Advisory Board will open on Wednesday 24 September and close Wednesday October 22.  The current Tourism NT Board will support the transition until 31 December 2025.
