Kangaroo Campaign – Follow the Roo to the Red Centre

Kangaroo, a new Australian family film from STUDIOCANAL, was filmed in and around Alice Springs and inspired by the life of Chris ‘Brolga’ Barns, founder of the world-famous Kangaroo Sanctuary. Set against the landscapes of the Red Centre, the movie offers a heart-warming look at small-town life in the heart of Australia and an unlikely friendship formed in the outback.

About the campaign

To leverage the launch, Tourism NT has created the Roo-R codes campaign, a playful national activation spanning out of home (OOH), digital, and cinema channels. Roo-R codes reimagines familiar kangaroo road signs with scannable QR codes, appearing in high traffic locations across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. These signs invite passers by to ‘follow the roo’, unlocking a digital journey into the Northern Territory and the chance to win a Red Centre adventure, including flights, accommodation and unforgettable Red Centre experiences, (in partnership with Qantas and Discovery Parks).

Working closely with STUDIOCANAL and Screen Territory, the campaign will run from 18 September to 31 October 2025 and connects the magic of movie with real experiences in Central Australia, encouraging families and travellers to discover the landscapes, wildlife and culture that make the NT different in every sense.
