Visitors injected $3 billion into the Territory economy in the year ending June 2023, boosting jobs and supporting local businesses.

According to the latest National and International Visitor Survey Results, it’s a 42% growth in expenditure compared to the $2.1 billion spent in the previous year to June.

1.6 million domestic and international visitors came to the Territory during that period, an increase of 27% to the year ending June 2022. International visitor nights are up 11% on pre-pandemic levels to 3.5 million nights spent in the Territory compared to 3.2 million nights in the year ending June 2019. This is due to the major increase in the average length of stay in the Territory, indicative of the return of working holiday maker markets.

For the first time, India has entered the top five international markets of visitors to the Northern Territory.
