New campsites in Litchfield National Park are a step closer following a tender release to design the new campgrounds.

The new campgrounds are part of the $17.5 million Litchfield Central Valley Turbocharging Tourism project.

Once complete, the project will see new camping and swimming spots opened at the popular National Park, which will enhance the visit experience while relieving overcrowding during peak tourism times.

The tender includes the design of new campgrounds all located by new swimming spots.

It follows the tender award for Stage 1 works which will see 18km of unsealed road and tracks suitable for 4WD vehicles constructed by local firm Aldebaran Contracting Pty Ltd, with work starting next month.

Once completed, Stage 2 works will get underway, including construction of walking tracks and 4WD access to the campground sites.
