The Northern Territory has been voted one of the top 30 emerging travel destinations in the world for 2020.

The Territory came in at number 15 on the coveted list by Travel Lemming.

It was one of only three Australian destinations to make the cut with Launceston in Tasmania picking up 11th spot and McLaren Vale in South Australian coming in at number 26 on the list.

The annual awards are voted on by some of the world's top travel bloggers and aim to highlight some of the incredible but most unappreciated places to travel to on the planet.

In selecting the Territory as an emerging destination, the judges said visitors would be mesmerised by "otherworldly Outback vistas" while noting the community's warm embrace of its Aboriginal history made it a great cultural destination as well.

"From the deep red hues of the Outback, the birdlife of Kakadu or simply the presence of Uluru: the Northern Territory epitomises all that Australia is. When coupled with the ever-increasing wealth of Indigenous culture in the region, the Northern Territory should be on everyone's 2020 list," awards judge Daniel Herszberg said.

Bruce Munro's first city-wide exhibition in Darwin, Tropical Light, was cited by the publication as one of the major reasons why people should visit the Territory in 2020.
