The Top End Wedding movie, showcasing the Territory, has had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, USA.

The romantic comedy was almost exclusively filmed in the Top End last year, and has so far delivered a local economic contribution of $1.6 million using 180 local suppliers and vendors, and creating 190 local jobs.

A trailer for the movie, which features spectacular Northern Territory landmarks, has also been released giving the Territory huge global exposure.

Darwin’s own Miranda Tapsell has multiple credits in the film as star, co-producer and co-writer with Joshua Taylor.

The creative team also includes Aboriginal director Wayne Blair and Australian production company Goal Post Pictures who also collaborated on the box office hit The Sapphires.

Engaged and in love, the film’s lead characters Lauren and Ned have just 10 days to find Lauren's mother who has gone AWOL somewhere in the Territory, then reunite her parents and pull off their dream Top End Wedding.

As the couple travel through the Top End including Darwin, Katherine, Kakadu and the Tiwi Islands they find fulfillment for their own personal journeys through the wild beauty of the landscape and the unbeatable charm of the Territory’s characters they meet along the way.

Following the Sundance Film Festival, Tourism NT will launch a new destination marketing campaign based on the film’s locations to target holiday visitors to the Territory.

Top End Wedding will be released into Australian cinemas on 2 May 2019.
