NT screen industry on show

Lily Whiteley on the set of KANGAROO with an orphaned joey

Screen Territory is taking the beauty of the Northern Territory to the world, and locals get a first look.

Two premium productions, STUDIOCANAL feature film Kangaroo and Amazon streaming series Top End Bub will hit screens this week with special Darwin screenings as part of Screen Territory’s NT on Screen program.

NT on Screen is a Screen Territory initiative, that presents the films for free or at discounted cost, delivers masterclass workshops and facilitates the NT Screen Summit. It’s an opportunity for the Northern Territory to celebrate the cast, crew and local talent involved in our screen industry. Tickets are available on the DIFF website. This year, the NT on Screen program includes three screenings, one held last month in Alice Springs for Kangaroo; and two in Darwin for Kangaroo and Top End Bub to support the Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF) program.

The red-carpet Darwin preview of the new STUDIOCANAL feature Kangaroo on 17 September at Event Cinemas Palmerston will feature special guests including The Kangaroo Sanctuary’s Chris ‘Brolga’ Barns, producer/actor Trisha Morton-Thomas, actors Ryan Corr, Ernie Dingo and young star Lily Whiteley along with producer Rachel Clements and STUDIOCANAL ANZ’s CEO Elizabeth Trotman. The screening will give Territorians an exclusive viewing of Kangaroo before it is released in cinemas around the country on Thursday 18 September.

Tourism NT is also supporting the launch of Kangaroo with a national campaign to tie into the movie and the launch internationally in Germany and the UK. And to keep the screens rolling Tourism NT is also amplifying the launch of Top End Bub on Amazon – continuing the successful set jetting approach they started with Netflix hit Territory which generated massive impact metrics.

Friday 19 September will see an exclusive red-carpet screening of new Amazon Prime series Top End Bub at Deckchair Cinema. Star of the series Miranda Tapsell, writer Joshua Tyler, directors Christiaan Van Vuuren, producers Rosemary Blight and Ben Grant, NT’s Libby Collins, Rob Collins and co-director Shari Sebbens will all be in attendance.  Head of Australian Originals – Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Sarah Christie will also attend the screening to share the moment with Darwin audiences.
