The Territory's birding trails are the stars of a new dedicated website.

The new website www.birding.northernterritory.com was launched this month along with the first ever Darwin Birding Trails brochure.

Both the new brochure and website were developed in collaboration with NT Parks and Wildlife and Darwin's birding specialists.

Over the past two years birding has become an increasingly important segment in the NT with an increased interest in our rare and endemic species and new specialist birding tourism operators establishing businesses.

Creating a separate website for birding in the NT will directly target bird watchers and provide them with the information they are looking for in a simple and effective way.

The new website features species lists for the Territory's distinct habitats such as rainforests, wetlands and floodplains, mangroves, arid areas, savanna and escarpments, information about about the NT's major birding events and festivals in both the Red Centre and Top End, tips on planning a birding holiday and booking options.

The new Darwin bird trails brochure will be distributed online via the new dedicated birding website, through Tourism Top End, via local birding guides and at relevant consumer events such as the UK Bird Fair.

Growing this niche tourism sector is also identified as a key strategy in the Tourism Vision 2020 with relevance to the Territory's priority markets.
