New adventure mountain bike trails will be developed in Central Australia under the Turbocharging Tourism stimulus package.

The package will see $12 million in funding for a new Red Centre Adventure Ride.

The new ride will showcase the breathtaking natural beauty of sites like the West MacDonnell Ranges, which are currently inaccessible for mountain bike riding.

It will involve more than 200 kilometres of new tracks, linking Alice Springs Desert Park to Glen Helen in West MacDonnell National Park, creating a unique trail adventure for all mountain biking skill levels.

The new Red Centre Adventure Ride will enable the Territory to better compete with other global mountain bike destinations for a greater share of this growing tourism market.

It will also open up opportunities for tourism operators to offer high-end, fully-supported guided tours, self-guided tours or luxury ‘glamping' experiences with new purpose-built campgrounds to be built under the plan, giving riders the chance to sleep under the outback stars.

The Red Centre Adventure Ride project will complement the popular Alice Springs Mountain Bike track to establish the Red Centre as a true mountain biking mecca.
