The Tiwi Islands will be opened up to new tourism opportunities following the announcement of a major new tourism push to promote the popular Northern Territory hot spot.

In encouraging signs for the Northern Territory's tourism industry, two of Australia’s largest tourism and transport operators, SeaLink Travel Group and AAT Kings have announced they will join forces in investing in national and international marketing campaigns showcasing the Tiwi Islands as a must-visit tourism destination.

As part of the new tourism drive, SeaLink have announced they will invest $2.6 million in the purchase of a new 20 metre vessel that will have a capacity for 150 passengers and will be primarily used to service the Mandorah ferry service on Darwin Harbour.

The ferry will also support the Tiwi route as required and is expected to commence service in September.
