Golden night for Nitmiluk at Australian Tourism Awards

Cicada Lodge at Nitmiluk National Park has taken out two prestigious Gold medals at the 2018 Australian Tourism Awards.

In all, Territory tourism operators took home five awards at the gala ceremony in Launceston, Tasmania.

Cicada Lodge took out the Gold for Luxury Accommodation and best Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services.

The Lodge also won a Silver Award in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism category, capping off a stellar night for the Aboriginal-owned Nitmiluk Tours, who operate Cicada Lodge on behalf of the Traditional Owners of Nitmiluk National Park, the Jawoyn people.

Nitmiluk Tours Chair and Jawoyn elder, Lisa Mumbin was in Launceston to accept the awards.

The Territory's other winners were Katherine Outback Experience who won Bronze in Tourist Attractions and Tourism Central Australia who won Bronze for Visitor Information Services.

The Australian Tourism Awards are the country's peak awards program that recognise excellence in tourism.

More than 800 finalists and dignitaries attended the gala event contesting 25 award categories, featuring representatives from all state and territories.
