The Northern Territory's cruise season officially kicks off today with the arrival of the Celebrity Solstice.

Carrying 2627 passengers and 1262 crew, Celebrity Solstice is one of the largest cruise ships to visit Darwin this season.

Other highlights of the 2016-17 cruise season include:

  • This year Darwin will receive 45 visits in total – the same number as last year.
  • The largest ship coming this season will be the Ovation of the Seas, due on 28 February 2017 with a passenger capacity of 4905 guests
  • Between now and the end of the season, there will be 10 Sunday visits

The cruise industry is extremely important to the Northern Territory's overall tourism industry as it provides an influx of tourists into the region during the off-peak season.

Cruise is everyone’s business and everyone can benefit from the estimated $16 million spent by cruise ship passengers in Darwin each year.
