$2 million boost for Katherine art and culture

Mimi Aboriginal Art and Craft, located in the town centre, is set to undergo the transformation this year as part of the NT Government’s Arts Trail initiative.
The $2 million upgrades will see significant improvements to the art gallery, artists’ studio and retail spaces.
An improved fit for purpose facility will provide more opportunities for artists and attract more visitors to purchase Aboriginal art and engage with artists to understand and experience the depth of Aboriginal art and culture in the region.
The centre represents artists from Katherine to the Tanami Desert all the way to Arnhem Land and showcases many diverse styles of art from canvas paintings to bark paintings, weaving and jewellery.
The Territory’s unique arts and cultural offerings are a major drawcard for visitors from around the world.
Investing in arts and cultural facilities across the Territory will help attract more visitors and encourage them to stay longer and explore our regions.
The funding for Mimi Aboriginal Art and Craft is part of the NT Government’s $30 million Arts Trail Regional Gallery Extension Program, which will also see significant upgrades to Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre (GYRACC) in Katherine.
