Tourism is a vital economic driver of the Northern Territory economy.
It has a broad impact upon many other industry sectors and generates a significant number of jobs in the Territory. In fact, around one in six employed Territorians has a job as a result of the tourism sector.
The Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre prepares individual Tourism Satellite Account reports for each Australian state and territory, in partnership with State Tourism Organisations which provides key measures of tourism’s contribution to the NT economy.
Economic Impact of Tourism – The NT economy is much more reliant on the tourism industry than the national average, with Tourism’s direct and indirect value-added contribution representing 10.3% of the total Gross Value Added (GVA) compared to 6.1% nationally.
The Tourism Satellite Account report provides key data on the economic significance of tourism, and the linkages that exist between tourism and other industries in the Northern Territory's finances.
