Tourism is a large economic driver of the Northern Territory economy.
It has a broad impact upon many other industry sectors and generates a significant number of jobs in the Territory. In fact, around one in six employed Territorians has a job as a result of the tourism sector.
Recently, Tourism Research Australia assumed responsibility for reporting on the Tourism Satellite Account estimates for each State and Territory from the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre.
Estimates for the NT from the State and Territory Tourism Satellite Account provide a means for the NT to make comparisons between tourism and other industries within the NT, to measure the contribution of tourism to the economy and to make comparisons with other benchmarks such as Australia as a whole.
