Visitors travel to the Northern Territory for a variety of reasons such as for a holiday, to visit friends and family, for business or educational purposes or for employment. The report below focusses on visitors that came to the Territory to visit friends or relatives, also known as VFR travel.
The VFR travel sector is valuable to tourism as catching up with family and friends will always remain a key motivator for travel. It is also important to consider that the opinion and experiences of friends and family who have travelled as well as those hosting can influence the choice of destination and the itinerary.
VFR travel is currently the third largest stated reason for travel amongst all overnight visitors to the Territory, behind holiday and business.
