Destination Development Blue Print 2007-2009

Completed in March 2007, Tourism NT's Destination Development Blue Print focuses on identifying the tourism experiences that are to be nutured as a priority in the next three years. 

The Blue Print identifies the following five key areas:

  1. Aid the development of sustainable and competitive tourism product which provides experiences to targeted consumers that reflects the NT’s destinational strengths of its cultural tourism assets.

  2. Aid the development of sustainable and competitive tourism product which provides experiences to targeted consumers that reflects the NT’s destinational strengths of its nature-based tourism assets, with an emphasis on:

    a) Developing and maintaining a suite of 4x4 tracks to a ‘market ready level’ across the Territory.
    b) Fostering the development of a graded set of walking trails in key nature-based locations throughout the Territory.
    c) Realising Kakadu’s tourism potential.
    d) Enhancing the tourism appeal of the Red Centre Way and the First National Landscape.

  3. Encourage investment in destination-appropriate, major tourism infrastructure (including influencing government and the private sector to provide infrastructure relevant to seasonal variations).

  4. Advance the Northern Territory tourism industry’s service delivery and professional standards by encouraging the adoption of best practice environmental, cultural and commercial practices to create, enhance and deliver quality product and services that match consumers’ needs.

  5. Structure, fund and manage relationships with regional tourism associations and visitor information centres to provide regional marketing initiatives and visitor information services.

Tourism NT's Destination Development Division will have primary responsibility for the implementation of this Blue Print.  An internal Action Plan is prepared annually to detail the project work that will be undertaken towards the achievement of the strategies articulated in this document.
