The Northern Territory’s tropical and desert climates are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change and our tourism industry is heavily dependent on nature-based, outdoor attractions and activities.

It is therefore important that we lead the way in protecting our environment by minimising the impact of tourism activities.

We aim to be ecologically and culturally sensitive, by minimising our impact on the environment and the local culture, while helping to generate income, employment and conservation of local eco-systems.

The Northern Territory Tourism Strategic Plan 2008-2012 identifies the necessary components for the continual growth and sustainability of the tourism industry. One of the five crucial themes outlined within the plan is 'Enhancing Environmental Sustainability.'
