Business Tips

If you’re planning to start a tourism business contact Tourism NT first.

Tourism is a commercial business activity that involves the delivery of high quality services and experiences to Australian and overseas visitors.

In order to operate a successful tourism business you need to establish a business plan and structure. There are different plans and structures that will suit your needs.

Remember…

  • Tourism requires hard work.
  • There are many different ways to work in tourism and there are many different types of visitors to the Northern Territory.
  • Not all tourism businesses need large amounts of money to start-up. Most tourism operators are small businesses or sole traders.
  • There is a wide range of Northern Territory Government support services available to Indigenous tourism operators and Tourism NT is linked with all of them.

If you’re serious about starting a tourism business, then…

  • Work with your Land Council if your business will be based on Aboriginal Land Trust and ask for a Land Use Agreement.
  • Work with the National Park if your business will operate on their land.
  • Work with agencies such as IBA to complete feasibility and business planning.
  • Stay in touch with the Industry Development team at Tourism NT.
