Green Certification Programs

Accreditation and certification programs benefit operators, the industry and consumers. It confirms to consumers and industry that tourism operators are committed to professionalism and continuous improvement in their conduct and service delivery.

There are a number of certification schemes that focus on the environmental performance of your business. These include:

Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP)
The ATAP program is a comprehensive business development program based on quality assurance principles. The program focuses on the development of a business plan and the key elements of day to day functions of a tourism business.  A component of the program requires a business to demonstrate its environmental management policies and procedures. ATAP is a TAAL licensed program.

Climate Action Certification Program
Launched in 2008 by Ecotourism Australia’s new arm, Climate Action Australia, this program, designed for all sectors of the tourism industry, is dedicated to ranking the efforts made by a business to reduce carbon emissions – regardless of their size or the level of carbon reduction they’ve already undertaken. It includes hotels, attractions, tours, transport, restaurants, travel agents, tourism commissions and industry bodies.

Eco Certification Program
Ecotourism Australia offers the Eco Certification Program, which was developed to address the need to identify genuine nature and ecotourism operators. The program assures travellers that certified products are backed by a strong, well managed commitment to sustainable practices and provides high quality nature-based tourism experiences. The Eco Certification range of programs are TAAL licensed.

Green Globe
Green Globe is an international benchmarking and certification program for the tourism and hospitality industry based on the United Nations Agenda 21 Principles of Sustainable Tourism Development. The program helps businesses achieve environmental, social and economically sustainable tourism practices.

Earthcheck Lite
Earthcheck Lite is designed for businesses that want to start addressing Sustainability and Climate Change. Earthcheck Lite program provides your business with an online health check framework and assesses all key environmental performance areas within your business to help get you started

Green Star - AAA Tourism
Green STAR involves a self assessment against a set of environmental critiera, followed by a desktop audit conducted by AAA Tourism. On successful completion of the audit, a property is awarded a Green STAR Accreditation and receives a marketing pack, including window sticker, certificate and tips on how to promote the property. An Assessor then conducts a Green STAR audit.
