Infrastructure & Product Development Plan

Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia

To improve the NT’s competitiveness in the highly competitive tourism industry in which we operate, the Department of Tourism and Culture is developing an Infrastructure and Product Development Plan for Tourism.

Our goal is to create a Tourism Infrastructure and Product Development Plan which will be a subsidiary Plan of the Territory’s recently released Economic Development Framework. The Plan aims to have a whole-of-government and industry focus and incorporate:

  • A vision of what tourism infrastructure and products are required to drive the growth of the NT’s visitor economy.
  • Identify pathways that are necessary to help the industry reach its potential.
  • Highlight areas that require significant attention.
  • Identify obstacles and challenges that stand in the way of growing tourism infrastructure and product in the Territory; and
  • Identify possible solutions or alternatives that could overcome these obstacles/challenges.

Industry input was gathered from workshops conducted in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Darwin, Katherine, and Nhulunbuy. Key areas explored included current visitor “pain” points, gaps and opportunities to improve the visitor experience, the visitor journey and the NT’s overall competitiveness as a destination. The Plan is expected to be released in December 2017.
