ABOUT THE AWARDS

The Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards (Brolga Awards) is the official tourism awards program for the Northern Territory. The Brolga Awards recognise and encourage tourism businesses that strive for excellence in every area of their operation.

The competition is open to tourism businesses, industry suppliers and outstanding individuals, who prepare a submission in response to a series of questions and criteria measure business excellence. Winning a Brolga Award is the industry's highest accolade and the recipients represent the best products and services in the Northern Territory.

Throughout the Brolga Awards' history, the diversity and calibre of entrants has matched the vitality and growing professionalism of the Northern Territory's tourism industry.

Winners of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards automatically become finalists in the 2012 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

Testimonials

Daly Waters Historic Pub
Robyne & Lindsay

We were ecstatic to win the Restaurant and Catering category for the second successive year. The awards are the highest accolade that Tourism NT can bestow on a tourism operator. The recognition boosts your confidence and reinforces the notion that as an operator you are guiding your business in the right direction.

Participating in the awards encourages you to view your business and business plans critically. It is a platform on which you can make informed observations and forecasts for potential growth and direction. The support, encouragement and feedback from the team is excellent and inspiring. It certainly makes you want to be an active part of the future of NT Tourism.

Lasseters Group
Chris Satori, Chief Operating Officer

Lasseters Hotel Casino strongly supports tourism in the Northern Territory and entering the Brolga Awards was a great opportunity to measure our tourism product against our peers. To receive the award for Deluxe Accommodation was not only great reward and recognition for our staff but also motivational for the organisation to strive for the National Award.

The marketing and promotional benefits that came with winning the award was also an added bonus and I would encourage any tourism business, big or small, to enter the Brolga Awards.

Nyinkka Nyunyu Art & Culture Centre
Kate Foran, General Manager

As General Manager of Nyinkka Nyunyu Art & Culture Centre, I entered our business in the 2011 Brolga Tourism Awards in the Indigenous Tourism category, and found it an extremely rewarding process. Compiling the submission enables you to take a step back from everyday operational matters and do an overall health check on your business. Much of the content of the submission related directly to the documentation we had already compiled in order to achieve our Tourism Accreditation, so it was a timely opportunity to revisit those documents, as well as to check our progress against our goals.

In a small business, it is very easy to get caught up in the daily goings-on, so it is important to prioritise this progress and check what overall direction your business is going. We found the exercise of looking back over developments and achievements of the last 12 months to be a highly effective tool in mapping a strategic path forward.

This was my first time entering, and despite being a more remotely located operator based in Tennant Creek, we never permitted inexperience, distance nor size work against us. We were delighted to win our category in the Brolgas, and then thrillingly went on to receive a Bronze placement in the National Tourism Awards! I cannot stress highly enough how beneficial this level of exposure has been. We have received attention, both nationally and internationally, since receiving the Bronze national prize. We were extremely proud to be standing up with the ‘big guns’ of the tourism industry Australia-wide at the nationals, proving that you don’t have to be the biggest in your game, you just have to believe in what you do, and then convey that commitment and passion in your submission!

I highly commend the Tourism NT staff. They also never let our location be a problem, and were very generous with support and assistance to us. Immediately following the 2011 Brolga submission, I began a file and started collating material for the 2012 awards. Writing a submission is not a small task, but it is the best help you will ever give your own business. Mentoring and advice from Tourism NT is extensive, and I recommend getting your team onboard and starting as early as you can. Involving your staff gives everyone a sense of ownership and is a very effective team-building opportunity within your organisation. I recommend the Brolga Awards to all tourism operators in the NT, no matter what size, nor where you are based. In fact, I cannot think of a single reason for not entering the Brolgas, and indeed look forward to doing it again in 2012! Hope to see you there.
